Apart from the mirror mechanism found in the motor system, there seems to be good evidence for a similar mechanism for the perception of emotion. Dr. Rizzolatti notes that the same regions that are active when one is in pain are the same as the ones active when one observes pain in others. In his mind this suggests that thee might be a general mirroring mechanism at work that is not confined to only one part of the brain but might constitute a particular way of processing information in the brain.
