How are long-term and working memory related?
About This Video
The relationship between long-term memory and working memory has been an issue of debate for a long time. Baddeley stresses that while there is a close relationship between the two, there are distinct differences. Long-term memory can work independently of any working memory activation. There are also many aspects of long-term memory that do not rely on working memory - for example motor skills or other procedural memories. However, in Baddeley's view any episodic memory relies on an experience - which requires the activation of the episodic buffer at some point in time.
