Comparing dual-task methodology and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

About This Video

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is often used to excite or temporarily disable processing in a particular brain region. In Baddeley's mind, the logic of temporarily creating "reversible lesions" in healthy participants is similar to the logic underlying the dual-task methodology employed in behavioral research which tries to temporarily engage a particular system through a secondary task and thus render this system unavailable for use in a another (the primary) task.
