Animal models of synesthesia

Animal models of synesthesia

About This Video

One of the powerful methods to investigate the neural basis of cognitive phenomena involves the use of animal models. Given that synesthesia is a personal experience, it seems hard to see how we could learn about it from animals. However, Dr. Ward points out some ways that might lead to a better understanding of synesthesia through animal studies. In particular he mentions a study by von Melcher in which visual and auditory circuits were rewired in ferrets.
