Quality of life for locked in patients

Quality of life for locked in patients

About This Video

It is usually assumed that the quality of life in locked-in patients must be miserable. Surprisingly, surveys conducted with locked-in patients show a different picture even though these patients can no longer enjoy normal activities. Dr. Birbaumer, who has led some studies investigating the quality of life in locked-in patients, tries to explain how people in this state can still feel that they have a decent quality of life. He stresses that this is only the case if the patient is in a positive and caring environment.
