Processes involved in reading

About This Video

Reading obviously differs from spoken speech processing. The reader faces the additional requirement of a grapheme to phoneme conversion. This can be done by slowly spelling out what a word might be based on individual letters or by recognizing an entire word as one unit. In either case, the resulting lexical identification then triggers the same language processing areas as in spoken word recognition.
