Movement restoration after stroke

Movement restoration after stroke

About This Video

Stroke patients often lose the ability to control parts of their body. Dr. Birbaumer discusses how science and technology have been working together to help such patients regain control of their limbs. His research with brain-computer interfaces (BCI) has yielded the development of possible training mechanisms and prosthetics that help restore a semblance of movement in the paralyzed limb. The hope is that eventually the patients will be able to control a peripherial prosthetic device attached to the paralyzed limb which the patients can learn to control using only their brain activity.
