Attention is a central concept in human cognition. In her research, Dr. Marlene Behrmann has addressed a number of interesting issues. What determines where we pay attention? Is it a particular location in space, or is attention bound to particular objects that can extend into different areas in space? In addition to her important theoretical work, Dr. Behrmann has also investigated patients with disorders of attention. Most prominently, she has investigated patients with spatial hemineglect who ignore part of their environment even though their perceptual abilities are still intact. She has also investigated prosopagnostic patients who have a difficult time identifying others based on their facial features.
