Assessing quality of life

Assessing quality of life

About This Video

Quality of life is an important concept when interacting with patients. While most people assume that quality of life must be poor for patients with locked-in syndrome, Dr. Birbaumer challenges these assumptions and tries to answer this basic question empirically. According to his research, quality of life for these patients can still be surprisingly good depending on the environment they live in. In this video he discusses the methodological challenges of measuring quality of life in patients who are very limited in their communication abilities.
